  7. Answer #7

Most registrars allow a grace period for registrants to renew expired domains.  That grace period can be as short as one to two weeks or as long as one year in some cases.  If the current registrant does not renew it within the allotted time frame, then that domain may become available after any grace and redemption periods during which the registrar and registry may hold the domain.  The actual grace period is different for each individual registrar.  Once the domain becomes available, you can register it through Data Logg Technologies.

In many cases, soon-to-be-expired domains are auctioned.  If the current registrant fails to renew the registration within the allotted grace and subsequent redemption periods, you can attempt to acquire the domain by placing a bid for it.

  9. Answer #9

You should know that the information listed on your domain name has to be made publicly available per our Registrar’s agreement with ICANN, the international governing body of domain names. Using false information will violate the registration agreement and lead to the termination of your domain registration.

However, we do offer a solution to help protect your privacy. You can register your domain name with us using our private domain name registration services.

When you purchase our private domain registration services, the WHO-IS directory will list Domains By Proxy’s name, postal address and phone number instead of yours.  Although Domains By Proxy is the Registrant of your domain name registration, you still retain the full benefits of domain registration.  You can:

    1. Cancel, sell, or transfer your domain name registration.
    2. Revert the Registrant listing for your domain name registration back to you.
    3. Renew your domain name registration when it expires.
    4. Designate the name servers for your domain.
    5. Resolve claims arising out of a dispute involving your domain name registration.

More importantly, with a private registration, Domain By Proxy’s name, address and phone number are made publicly available in the WHOIS directory--and not yours.

  10. Answer #10

Unfortunately, Data Logg Technologies is unable to change or edit the spelling of a domain after it has been registered.  We try to register the domain exactly as you enter it.  Should the registration succeed, you are charged, even if the domain you entered was not what you actually intended to type.

You do have the option of cancelling the domain so that it is no longer registered to you, but cancelling does not entitle you to a refund of any part of your registration fee. Cancelling a domain is a permanent action.

  11. Answer #11

Yes you may, once your account is setup with Data Logg Technologies see Question 1 and you have transfered your domain to us.  Per our agreement with ICANN, we must add your domain and contact information to the Whois directory when you register a domain. However, with many domain extensions (.COM, .NET, etc.) you can add Private Registration to your domain and replace your contact information with the contact information from Domains By Proxy, our affiliate company used for private registrations.

NOTE: Some Registries do not allow privacy to be added to the domain.  These are primarily country-code extensions such as .US, .CO.UK, etc.  If the Registry does not allow the addition of privacy, no Privacy tab will be available.
To Add Privacy to Your Existing Domains 1. Log in to your Account Manager.
    2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
    3. Use the checkbox(es) to select the domain name(s) you want to modify.
    4. Click Upgrade.
    5. On the Privacy tab, click Add, and then select one of the following:
    1. Create a new account
If you do not have an account, we create a Domains By Proxy account for you. We send the user name and password in an email message after creating your account. 2. Use an existing account
If you already have an account with Domains By Proxy, enter your User Name and Password for the account.

    6. If you agree to the Domain Name Proxy Agreement, select I have read
and agree to the Domain Name Proxy Agreement.
    7. Click Next.
    8. Click Checkout and continue through the checkout process.

  12. Answer #12

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a non-profit corporation located in Marina Del Rey, California tasked with managing the logistics of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and domain names.  Created in September 1998, ICANN took over these duties previously served by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).  As recently as September 2006 ICANN renewed its agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to continue in this capacity.

Every computer than connects to the Internet must have a unique address in order to issue requests and receive information within the Internet.  When a user logs on to the Internet, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns an IP address.  ISPs are assigned blocks of proprietary IP addresses for their use.  The IPs they assign to their customers are pulled from these blocks.

In addition to every computer online having a unique address, every website must also have a unique address.  The domain name is only used as a convenience because names are easier for people to remember than a string of numbers, but each name maps back to a specific IP address.  In the case of wiseGEEK.com, for example, the IP address is 69.93.118.236.  Considering the vast number of Internauts and websites, it becomes clear that ICANN has a formidable job in managing the global coordination of this crucial aspect of the Internet.

Over time new domain hierarchies became necessary to answer demand.  Thanks to ICANN, standard .com, .net and .org addresses were joined by extensions .info, .name, .tv and .museum among others.  The travel industry got its own hierarchy with .travel, and websites dedicated to employment opportunities could populate the .jobs hierarchy.  ICANN also manages IPs assigned to government offices (.gov), military (.mil), and country code hierarchies (e.g. .uk).

ICANN operates through a board of stakeholders who regularly meet to discuss policy development to better serve the needs of the Internet. It coordinates resources from a variety of bodies within ICANN that include the Address Supporting Organization (ASO), the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), and the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (CCNSO).  Input also comes from the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), the Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC), the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), and the Technical Liaison Group (TLG).  Each of these bodies within ICANN addresses specific areas required for effective overall management of the global assignment of domain names and IP addresses.
